There are hundreds of Gyrotonic Exercises that lengthen the muscles and open the joints as the body moves in a circular way. Below are a few typical exercises and the benefits of each movement.

GYROTONIC ® sessions

Arch & Curl with assist

This exercise articulates the full length of the spine from the base through the neck on up to the crown of the head. It opens the joints in the shoulders, elbows, wrists and hands as well as the sternum. Muscles are lengthened through the shoulders, neck, arms, chest and back, and thighs. Abdominal,) and leg muscles are engaged to build strength. Specific breathing patterns assist the body in optimal performance.

Breaststroke

The Breaststroke lengthens and strengthens muscles in the chest, shoulders, upper back and arms while opening the chest and joints in the shoulder, elbows, wrists and fingers. Abdominals and legs are engaged to build strength. Specific breathing patterns assist the body in performance.

Hamstring Scissors

These movements lengthen and strengthen the hamstrings and hip flexors while opening, releasing and articulating the hip joints, knees and ankles at the same time helping to lengthen and support the entire spinal column. Calf muscles engage while the ankle joints open with the flex and point action. Engaged abdominals build strength while specific breathing nourishes the body and supports the movement.

Single Spiral Forward with assist

This movement articulates the spine in an arch while twisting and a curl while twisting from the base through the neck to the crown of the head. It lengthens and releases muscles in the shoulders, arms, hands and throughout the entire torso. Use of the abdominals and legs builds strength while specific breathing supports the movement.
